I visited a wonderful blog, angelato, where she posted a link to the Golden Compass website. She mentioned that she visited there and discoverd her daemon, your animal spirit who accompanies you throughout your life, and represents your soul. It sounded so enchanting and I am already so excited about this film, that I hopped over there immediately. After taking a short quiz I found that Erasmus the raccoon is my daemon. Raccoons rule!

So, in keeping, more or less, with the animal idiom theme, I figured I had to feature a raccoon tonight. Why he’s bowling, I’m not really sure. Seemed like a good idea at the time. I figured, if I had a little raccoon spirit following me around as a companion, he’d probably be the bowling type. Besides, raccoons, not having the most athletic bodies in the forest, would likely go for bowling as a passtime, given the option.

I really like raccoons…when i was about 10 years old, i made one of those homemade/handbound books about raccoons. they are just too cute. we even had one as a “pet” once. He played with our toys, and made huge messes. GREAT memories!

A pet raccoon, how awesome!! They are wonderful creatures.

Just tonight, when my husband and I got home from work, we saw a raccoon scamper across our neighbor’s front yard! A rare enough occurance in our suburban neighborhood for me to wonder, was that Erasmus coming to join me, hee hee.

  7. Adorable! Great illo!

  8. Raccoons are my absolute favourites. We have a pair that traipse through our yard every evening and again every morning, often with wee ones in summer—we have a little birdbath outside one of the doors and often in the morning I get an eyeful of raccoon bum as one washes up in it. Recently the large male somehow lost his tail—he’s totally fine otherwise, but I can’t tell you how hilarious he looks—it’s like a tiny bear lumbering past the window.

This guy is so well done—I have a tough time drawing them due to the black eyes/black mask conundrum. But you have nailed the ‘coonness perfectly. Brava.

Oh, I know! After bunnies, (or conies), raccoons are my favorites as well. It feels like magic whenever one, or usually two, waddle through our yard.

I can just imagine how adorable your raccoon drawings would be, if you chose to give it another try.

WoW! Family. You are the first EVER person I have come across whose totem is a raccoon! This is pretty exciting. I discovered however, not through a quiz, a bit more drawn out of a process. I’ve even changed my name to Meekah…which in N.A. native languages means wise, intelligent raccoon. Lovin’ your illustrations. Would like to see more of us! Aho.
