21 day creative exercise-day 10
July 3, 2008
I did a preliminary sketch for my entry in Alicia Padrón’s book giveway. The theme is the importance of trees in celebration of the publication of the gorgeous book she illustrated, “The Wish Trees.” Her children will be the judges and chose the winner of the giveaway. Should be a pretty good test of how well one’s art is recieved by children, eh?
So, before I enter this drawing, I plan on adding color. But for now I’m going to try to get a little mileage out of my little tree dude.

That is a great theme. The kid looks sooo happy. And the tree looks pretty happy too. Love it.

I love this. I like the little bunches of flowers at the base of the tree. The tree looks friendly. The animals look friendly. The little girl looks full of glee. With the colors you add, I know it will look inviting and refreshing.
I’m thinking the kids will like it as much as we all do!
Once again, well done!

Okay, you’ve melted me with this one. It’s amazing in all areas: cuteness, happiness, animal love, and support and respect for trees. I wish I were that kid! You’re gonna win 😉

I had tried to leave you a message earlier, but it didn’t seem to register…
Anyway, I said how much I loved this illustration, both in black and white and the final piece in color. I love how the tree is gently pushing the girl on the swing, the little bunny peeking from behind the tree, the squirrel, the tiny snail, the look of sheer joy on the girl’s face, it’s all perfect. You have a great style, great characters, and total control of your lines and perspective.
