Alpaca and pachyderm packed themselves into a Packard and proceeded to Pakistan.

The Illustration Friday theme this week is “Packed,” and once again, I went with the obvious choice.

Thanks to my good friend Alexis for coming up with most of this alliteration. It was fun, tee hee!

hula kitty

September 17, 2008

The Illustration Friday theme this week is “Island,” and of course, the first thing that pops into my head when I here the word island are all the stories I’ve heard of the mythical hula kitty and her ukulele accompanying mouse Ray… living on an island in the Milken Sea.

Right… am I lyin’? Tell me that’s not the first thing that pops into your head.

I know what you’re thinking. “Did kitty roll over so I can rub his belly or is he lulling me into a false sense of security, so he can shred my arm?” Well, to tell you the truth, in all this excitement, I kind of lost track myself. But being as these are cat claws, the sharpest claws in the world, and would have you pulling back a bloody stump, you’ve got to ask yourself a question:

Do I feel lucky? Well, do ya, punk?

…haaaaaappy birthday to youuuuuuuuuu!

WARNING • WARNING • MUSH ALERT
(The following text will be very mushy… eeeyew!)
………………………………………………………………….

Well, today is my blog’s birthday. A whole year… wow!

Starting this project was one of the best things I’ve ever done. I say this for quite a few reasons. Not only did I reignite my love affair with drawing, (which I did in spades), my confidence and ability improve, but something else quite wonderful happened. Friends and family started to stopped by for visits and began rooting me on. Also, I discovered and became a part of the talented, inspiring and always encouraging Illustration Friday community. Through IF and other blogging avenues, I have “virtually” met some fantastic folks whom I now consider friends. People I never would have met otherwise, people from all over the world! It’s astounding really, when you think of it.

So I just want to thank my friends, family and anyone who has ever stopped by, especially those who have left, encouraging, humorous, helpful even constructively critical comments. Thank you also, for entertaining, enriching and motivating me with YOUR art!

All y ‘all have made this quite a year to remember. Thanks!

… and as the house flies begin to mass inside my house, I am reminded that this is a yearly occurrence in our neck of the woods. To illustrate that fact and to celebrate further my blog’s b-day, here is a little ditty from a year ago. Fly Slyer

grannies gone wild

September 5, 2008

It was indeed a day of firsts.

Earlier, she had dipped her toe in the ocean and now was tipping a glass of chianti at
Big Al’s Macaroni Hut with the widow Morty Glickman from Great Neck.

You probably shouldn’t wait up.

memories

September 2, 2008

Sometimes I wonder what role, if any, I’ve played in other people’s memories? Perhaps if I had considered this sooner, I would have behaved a bit better… or… not.
