burning
November 12, 2010
The Illustration Friday word for the week is “burning”. Ok, this is a bit of a stretch, but it sort of works, eh?
I’m heading to the SCBWI L.A. Illustrator’s Day tomorrow and this is what I entered for the illustration contest they are having. We were asked to illustrate something for the following sentence:
“It was night, and the rain fell; and falling, it was rain, but, having fallen, it was…”
So I thought … a flood. A flooded zoo to be exact. I know, always with the stretching I am.
Anyway, wish me luck!

Yes, it is a stretch for “burning”, but is an awfully cute painting 🙂

This is really a great illustration! I love the little meerkat! Did you ever watch the show Meerkat Manor. My kids loved it, and hence love all things meerkats now. 🙂

Good luck Linda! This is so wonderful…I can’t see you not winning the contest! Your characters and their expressions are perfect. The water is so cool! Love your lighting and contrast!

Definitely works!
These characters are amazing and I love the extra touch of saying ‘feets’ with an ‘s’ – adds a wonderful extra dimension for children. Great work!

as i see your lion has a burning desire for a bite instead of dry feets and i think it’s a nicely done drawing however the burning itself seems to be rather washed away by the rain what i like the most here is your full moon and the umbrella bye

oh so fun, love it. I of course think you should win! I bet the rhino’s legs are “burning” holding everyone up.
Good luck with the sketchbook, I caved on developing a grand plan and just started random doodles, I’m so lame, but time is fleeting. e
