Dear Linda, last year I stumbled across SkaDaMo as I explored what was out in the wide world to help me recapture my youthful dreams. I had given up art in my 20s to work a “real” job and drifted through hospitality, disability support, education and a variety of other “real” jobs but always in my heart I longed to be making art and telling stories. I did a sketch a day every day last November then went on to do HoHoDooDa with an Australian theme and then the 52 week challenge hosted by Tania McDonald. I have not missed making art every day in over a year now and I want to thank you for providing a place for me to rediscover the joy of art and to springboard from your place of encouragement. I have now had illustrations accepted in 13 anthologies and have three commissions to illustrate for other writers and illustrations in the chapter book of yet another writer. I am happier than I have ever been and you provided a pivotal motivator in that journey. Thank you from the bottom of my heart.
Wow, Cecilia! That is an incredible story! You took the crumbs of encouragement others were throwing out there and you really ran with it in a big way! I am so thrilled to have been a tiny part in your journey, but it’s yourself you need to thank. You put your butt in the seat and you did the work. I applaud you! Keep up the great work, girl!
This is what I get for being out of the loop for the past 2 years. I miss the fun stuff. Now that I am “back”, I actually started my own self-challenge near the end of Oct to sketch everyday in an effort to get better. Will add the badge to make me “official”! Love all the animal meshing 🙂
Hey stranger! Thanks and great to hear from you! Yes, grab the badge and keep on sketching! Can’t wait to get over there and check out what you’ve been up to!

Hee hee, thanks, Julie. I think they are a bit embarrassed, being a very shy creature and having been discovered like this. (0;
