… and this will conclude SkADaMo 2017. Not exactly 30 sketches, but I suppose 11 is better than no sketches at all, sooooo… winning!!!

ADDENDUM: My pun-addled mind woke me up last night with a change to the name.

hedgiepus

My friend Alexis told me her boyfriend was trying to imagine the mating scenario that would spawn a Hedgipus, but he fell short. I wanted to come up with a snappy answer, but I too fell short. I guess we’ll just have to suspend our disbelief on this one.

She was fluttering around in my head for a few days. Finally scratched her way out.

No word play necessary for this one. It was just sitting there waiting.

I wonder what a swail trail looks like.

As my cousin Karanne said, “Giving swimming trunks a new image.”

I love it when people are inspired to be punny and engage in word play. I feel the absurd and goofy just might save the world!

Otherwise known as a Ribbit.

Yep, still with the animal combos… and loving it!

Also, wanted to dip back into the Illustration Friday fun. So, as usual I stretched this post to fit the theme “Wax“. That’s just how I roll, so just mind your own beezle wax. Get it… beezle wax… never mind.

Lookit!

I managed to sketch yet again!

Trying to recapture some of the fun I had with SkADaMo 2014 when i was doing animal combinations. I’m not sure what was more fun drawing them or coming up with the wacky names.

I was inspired one day, while wasting time on the interwebs and stumbled upon “Meowls” and “Dirds.” Seems like animal combos are definitely a thing.

So… jumped on the bandwagon.

In 2014 I had a blast doing fictitious animal hybrids. You can take a look here, if you’d like. I was inspired by the MEOWLS and DIRDS I stumbled upon on the interwebs.

So, any who, giving it another go in an attempt to recapture some of the giddy joy it gave me a few years ago.

I submit to you, for post 1, “Pigeagle.”

It occurred to me that this blog celebrated it’s 10th year just this past September. It also became painfully apparent that I hadn’t bothered to post anything since April. So, what the heck, why not get back into the swing, with SkADaMo!

I realize that I not only waited until the last minute to get things started this year (a regular practice), I am in fact, starting halfway through the month. But flying by the seat of the pants is SkADaMo tradition, afterall!

Sooooo, it’s November 13th! That means all the cool challenges are not only upon us, but also halfway through.

There’s NaNoWriMo (National Novel Writing Month)

NaBloPoMo (National Blog Posting Month) and, what used to be a November challenge

PiBoIdMo (Picture Book Idea Month), now Storystorm, which now takes place in January.

There are probably a bunch more, but suffice it to say, November is a busy month for some. So now, since 2011, SkADaMo “Sketch a Day Month” has also been thrown into the mix. (That is, every year since, except for 2015, which was a difficult November, but we forge ahead and start anew! )

I really started SkADaMo as a personal challenge and gave it the name as a bit of a spoof on all the other November challenges. I even jokingly made a badge, thinking I would be the only participant. But lo and behold, several other wonderful artists, doodlers and sketchers threw their hats, or pencils into the mix, here and there over the years.

So if anyone wants to join in this year, they are more than welcome and very much encouraged to grab this badge, off to the side here and start sketching for the remaining weeks.

SKADAMO RULES:

“What are the rules?” You may ask.

1. THERE ARE NO RULES! NO SIGN UP! NO REGISTRATION! NO GIVEAWAYS OR GUEST POSTERS!  No regulations, themes, daily words, Facebook pages or anything else resembling organization. Just lots of sketching, commenting back and forth and hopefully lots of inspiration and craft honing!
SkADaMoers are scoff-laws and Mavricks! (Actually, the truth is I’m just not that organized.) The only code we live by this month is SKETCH! SKETCH! SKETCH! Sketch everyday from November 1 to November 30,or at least try to.
You may not sketch every single day, but by golly you will have tried and you’ll have more sketches in your sketchbook at the end of November than you might have otherwise.
So, there’s that!

2. In the past I kept a running list of participants right here on my blog. This year, however, if you post your sketches or links to your blog on facebook, twitter, instagram, tumblr, flickr or pinterest, why not go ahead and hasthtag it with #SkADaMo. I believe this would be a much more efficient way to keep track and follow fellow SkADaMo participants.

Oh, and did I mention, I’m not very organized?

3. Go ahead and grab this small badge if you’d like and use it as you see fit, on your blog or what have you.

4. Most important rule of all… SMILE! This is fun!

Sketch on my fellow SkADaMoers, (should there be any besides myself this year!)
