a day in the life

June 19, 2008

I’ve procrastinated long enough! My dear friends Alicia from My Place Over the Hill and Colleen from The Frog Blog both tagged me for the “Day in the Life” meme. It was great fun reading theirs. Now I hope I can live up to the challenge. This is what a typical week day is like for me. Join me, won’t you?

5:30-6:00am
I not only set my clock 15 minutes ahead to “fool” myself, I also set the alarm for 5:30 so I can continuously hit the snooze, and again, “fool” myself that I’m cheating time somehow. The cacophony that ensues: Brrrrrrrrrrraaaaaaangggg, smack, @#%*! Brrrrrrrrrrraaaaaaangggg, smack, @#%*! goes on for about 30 minutes. Finally, however, there is one thing that finally gets my hiney out of bed. It comes in the form of a little black paw, batting gently at my nose, with just a hint of claw. Just a hint mind you. Right about this time, coming from a different direction, a furry white head starts butting the side of my chin and cheek, ever so insistently. So it’s the batting, the butting and eventual wet nose sniffing around my ear area that eventually wakes me up.

six word memoir

March 28, 2008

headinclouds.jpg

I was invited by my friend Laurel of Studio Lolo fame, to write a six word memoir. A bit of a challenge, but for Laurel, I’ll give it a try.

Here are the rules:

1. Write a six word memoir and post it on your blog. Feel free to add an image.

2. Link your post to the person who tagged you.

3. Tag 5 more people and link to them.

4. Comment on the tagged blogs and invite them to participate…no pressure (0;

I’m inviting friends and family, because they are writers and they will still like me, even if I tag them… I hope.

mission: top secret

March 27, 2008

secet-mission-cows.jpg

I’m not sure what the statute of limitation is on memes but the lovely, talented and whimsical Faruffa tagged me eons ago. She’s a sweetie for thinking of me and, it’s high time I took the challenge.

So here’s the deal. I am to reveal 6 top secrets about myself and pass the mission on to six others. So here goes:

1. I secretly wish I was a cowgirl. Together with my cat Joey and a saddlebag full of Luna Bars and kibble, we would ride the range together. We would shout at all the little dawgies to git along! The cattle we’d drive would be dairy cows. Yes, dairy cows, riding the range, giving milk, living free, (it could happen.)

2. I not so secretly tend to avoid bread, because it makes me puff up like a blow fish. This generally lasts for mmmmmm… a week or two, at which point I binge on all the bread I can get my grubby mitts on and… puff up like a blowfish.

3. I have a secret, irrational fear of emptying the trash on my computer. I am certain that an urgently, important, life altering file has been flung in there by some ill-fated, slip of the wrist and I won’t notice it until I hit “empty trash.” Am I so wrong?

4. For those who know me, it’s no secret that it took an inordinate amount of time and copious amounts of frog kissing to finally find a partner that I not only love, but also like… a lot. That would be Tom, my husband. The best part is, he actually has the patience to put up with my exhausting, shenanigans and still… he thinks I’m cute. I’m lucky.

5. I use ellipses and parenthesis way too much… (it’s a curse.)

6. My usual sun-shiney personality can, at times, be marred with the occasional crankiness. Especially if I’m being judged for using ellipses and parenthesis too much. For instance, that person on number 5… judging me. Hey, number 5, you talkin’ to me?

……………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………

Alright, I’ve decided this mission is far too dangerous to pass along, so I am going it alone on this one. Your secrets are safe for now. Unless, of course, any of you brave souls want to go for it!

Ciao!

these go to 11…meme

January 13, 2008

There’s a new meme in town, created by Kim Coles of I’m with Sully fame. The very talented and versatile artist Laurel Gaylord Studio Lolo tagged me for this meme. Being tagged is a huge step in my last-kid-to-be-picked-for-the-team recovery (thank you Junior High P.E.) So in that spirit, here goes nothing!
Here are the questions and my answers.
1. Voted most likely to:

Require surgery to remove foot from mouth.

2. Regrets:

I regret not having done many things I was afraid I’d regret doing.

3. It’s a Monday, you’re tired and don’t feel like working, so you:

Contemplate calling in sick. Go to work. Promise myself a treat if I make it through the day. Go to sleep. Wake up. Start process over again on Tuesday morning.

4. You would prefer to have dinner with:

My husband Tom, standing in the kitchen, eating cereal over the sink, with a shot of Jameson, yammering about politics.

5. If you were going bald, you would:

Use spray-on hair for the first month. Eventually opting to shave my head. I’d probably then get a few piercings and some ink in an effort to make shaved head look like a statement and not the clever rouse it really is.

6. You lay awake at night, pondering:

What my strategy would be if I went bald.

7. If you were forced to share a cubicle, the most important thing you’d look for is:

Someone who doesn’t chew gum with their mouth open.

Or earphones.

8. What is most likely to be found in the trunk of your car?

The laser ink cartridge I’ve been meaning to recycle for 8 years.

9. Favorite ‘Spinal Tap’ moment:

It’s hard to pick a favorite moment, there were so many, but this one is definitely up there. Hee heeeee!

Asked by a reporter if this is the end of Spinal Tap

David St. Hubbins: Well, I don’t really think that the end can be assessed as of itself as being the end because what does the end feel like? It’s like saying when you try to extrapolate the end of the universe, you say, if the universe is indeed infinite, then how – what does that mean? How far is all the way, and then if it stops, what’s stopping it, and what’s behind what’s stopping it? So, what’s the end, you know, is my question to you.

10. Based on your work history, the job you SHOULD HAVE right now is:

Doodler

11. Your imaginary band name is:

The Miscreants

So now is the time to tag three other unsuspecting bloggers.

Tom Gapen at Visual Kaos

Helena C. Rådström at The Empress’ New Clothes

Froggy at Oh Thank Goodness it’s Friday

No pressure guys. Just thought it would be fun to hear your answers.

Thanks for indulging me. Now, if you’ll excuse me, I need to go figure out whether or not to call in sick tomorrow.

me me me me me meme

The very lovely and talented artist Val Webb tagged me for a meme over a week ago, and being a great, big procrastinator, I am just now getting to it.

Val is the artist behind The Illustrated Garden. Her blog is filled with beautiful drawings of her garden, helpful craft and art tutorials, and among other nifty things, just a nice place to find yourself. You must stop by.

The rules of this meme are:
· When tagged, you must link to the person who tagged you.
· Then post the rules before your list, and list eight random things about yourself.
· At the end of the post you must tag and link to eight other people

    8 RANDOM THINGS ABOUT ME

    1. I married my best friend, Tom a year ago, October. After dating two years, we moved in together, then two years after that, we bought a house, two years after that we got married. We like doing things a little out of sync. Keeps things interesting.

    2. We have 3 kitties, or should I say, 3 kitties have us. They allow us to think we are running the show.

    3. My favorite color is green. All shades of green, but especially deep jade and the bright yellowish green of a sapling. The first time I saw the sun back light a dewy meadow along the 101 heading north from L.A. to the central coast, I felt the magic of that color take hold of me and never leave. Green invigorates, heals, inspires and gives me hope.

Oh, and it looks great with red hair.

    4. I love…no, I am addicted to strong coffee. In fact, it pretty much needs to be espresso, whenever possible. My favorite way to start the day is either some black french pressed, french roast, or a double, short brevé (steamed half and half) cappuccino. I like it short because I want just a wee bit of steamed milk so I can really taste the bite of the coffee. I like the way this drink smacks me upside the head when I’m blurry eyed and stumbling around in the morning. Especially with the late nights I’ve been keeping since starting this blog.

My favorite way to end the day is with a nice cup of tea, either straight or if I need extra comforting a little milk and orange blossom honey.

Another favorite way to end the day is with a nice glass of cab or zin or a shot of Irish Whiskey. But that’s another conversation.

    5. I like soup.

    6. My husband says I smell good, so I’ve got that goin’ for me.

    7. In addition to kitties and dogs, I adore bunnies, raccoons, squirrels and all things furry. Check it.

    8. I would love nothing more than to spend my days illustrating and possibly writing children’s books. I realize I am not alone in this, especially since everyone and their movie star is writing children’s books these days. But there you go.

    You gotta have a dream.

If you’re still awake, thanks for sharing 8 random things with me.
