The Illustration Friday theme this week is “Homage.”

I’d like to pay homage to John Lennon 1940-1980, peace activist, artist, husband, father, Beatle and someone I considered a hero.

In 1969, during the Vietnam War, John Lennon and Yoko Ono held 2, week-long Bed-Ins for Peace, in Amsterdam and Montreal, as a way to non-violently protest the war and promote peace.

There were a lot of people who dismissed him because he thought peace might be a good idea. But there were and still are a lot more of us who agree and still sing his music at the top of our lungs.

IMAGINE
by John Lennon

Imagine there’s no heaven
It’s easy if you try
No hell below us
Above us only sky
Imagine all the people
Living for today…

Imagine there’s no countries
It isn’t hard to do
Nothing to kill or die for
And no religion too
Imagine all the people
Living life in peace…

You may say I’m a dreamer
But I’m not the only one
I hope someday you’ll join us
And the world will be as one

Imagine no possessions
I wonder if you can
No need for greed or hunger
A brotherhood of man
Imagine all the people
Sharing all the world…

You may say I’m a dreamer
But I’m not the only one
I hope someday you’ll join us
And the world will live as one
